When you start a blog, the first thing you want to see is usually the number of views. But if you focus only on views, it is easy for your writing direction to become unstable. If someone comes in from search and leaves right away, the number remains, but the relationship does not.
That is why this blog’s goal is returning visitors rather than simple visits.
Elements That Make People Come Back
First, there needs to be an ongoing story. Readers should be curious about the next installment.
Second, every post should contain something learned. A record of emotions alone may create empathy, but it is difficult for it to be shared.
Third, there needs to be a theme that can be explained in one sentence. It should be something readers can remember, such as “A record of someone growing while building things with development and AI.”
Operating Metrics
In the early stages, focus on the following metrics rather than advertising revenue.
- Which posts do people read to the end?
- Which posts are shared?
- After which posts do people read other posts?
- Who subscribes to the email list?
Monetization should be built on top of this structure. First, create a reason to read, and then add advertising.
