Trying to create the perfect blog from the start will exhaust you before you even begin writing. So I created a small set of operating rules for 100 days.
What to Record
- At least one build log each week
- What I read and what I learned
- Problems I got stuck on during development and how I solved them
- Why I changed the direction of the project
- Experiments to try the following week
What to Avoid
- Writing only things that sound impressive
- Merely summarizing without any real experience
- Sacrificing writing quality for advertising revenue
- Writing based only on search keywords
What to Measure
The metrics to look at before page views are return visits, subscriptions, and shares. What matters more is whether people read once and leave, or whether they want to read the next post too.
